Definitive subsidy amounts for solar PV 2025
Façades Facing East or West: Now More Incentivised than Ever
We’re excited by the recent announcement of the definitive subsidy amounts for solar PV in SDE++ 2025 by Minister Hermans. Particularly the new categories for façades with east-west orientation.
Here’s why this matters and how it opens opportunity for building owners, developers, and façade specialists:
What’s New in SDE++ 2025
For the first time, there are separate subsidy categories for solar panels on façades that are oriented toward the east or west. These orientations provide a more beneficial production profile: peaks in the morning and afternoon rather than a single midday spike. Projects may deviate up to 30° from due east or due west.
Why East-/West-Facing Solar Façades Make Sense (Especially Now)
- Better output spread → instead of a sharp midday peak, energy generation is more evenly spread over daylight hours. More usable power during times of high demand.
- Grid advantages → less congestion during peak solar hours, which is an increasing concern. East-west façades help smooth the load profile.
- Higher subsidy rates → the SDE++ scheme specifically rewards east-west façade installations with higher base rates per kWh than some traditional orientations because of their “valued” output profile.
What This Means for Stakeholders
- For building owners & developers → It becomes much more attractive to integrate solar façades, even on sides of buildings that aren’t due south (or the “ideal orientation”).
- For architects & façade engineers → You can now design with east-west façades and still expect strong returns, both from subsidy and from energy yield over time.
- For us at ZigZagSolar → These changes align exactly with our mission: to enable high-performance solar façades that deliver real, usable energy where traditional roof panels panels are not enough. Our systems — optimized for east-west orientation — are ready to take full advantage of the new SDE++ categories.
