Verstegen Spices & Sauces: Pioneering Sustainable Energy Integration 

In November 2024, ZigZagSolar completed a landmark project for Verstegen Spices & Sauces in Rotterdam, marking one of the company’s most ambitious and customized solutions to date. Faced with the challenge of an unsuitable roof for traditional solar panels, Verstegen opted for ZigZagSolar’s innovative façade system, effectively transforming three of the building’s four façades into energy-generating surfaces. The projected has 135,340Wp installed in total. 

Collectively, these panels are projected to yield approximately 100,000 kWh annually, significantly contributing to the building’s energy needs. Therefor this project not only showcases the efficient use of vertical space for solar energy generation. It also emphasizes the aesthetic integration of technology into the building’s design. 

The official opening on November 6, 2024, was attended by Rotterdam’s Alderman for Climate, Building, and Housing, Ms. Zeegers, and Mr. M. Driessen, owner of Verstegen Spices & Sauces. Who’s attendance highlighted the project’s importance in the realm of sustainable urban development.  

Windhondflat in Tegelen: Harmonizing Aesthetics and Energy Efficiency 

In November 2024, ZigZagSolar completed the installation of 132 solar cassettes, each with a capacity of 135 Wp, on the south façade of the Windhondflat residential complex in Tegelen. This innovative approach to façade renovation not only enhanced the building’s visual appeal but also achieved an annual energy yield of approximately 19,000 kWh. This initiative significantly reduced tenants’ service costs, demonstrating the tangible benefits of integrating solar technology into residential structures. 

Gymnasium at Rodaristraat, Rotterdam: Advancing Sustainable Urban Infrastructure 

In collaboration with the Municipality of Rotterdam, ZigZagSolar embarked on a project to equip the gymnasium at Rodaristraat with advanced solar façades. This project aimed to explore innovative methods of sustainable energy generation within urban environments. The implementation of ZigZagSolar’s technology not only contributed to Rotterdam’s ambitious goal of achieving a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from municipal sports facilities by 2025 but also served as a model for integrating renewable energy solutions into public infrastructure.
