Windhondflat in Tegelen

Windhondflat - Tegelen

– By order of: Housing corporation Antares

– Realization: November 2024

– 132 cassettes at 135 Wp

– Energy yield (with white decorative panels): 19,000 kWh per year

132 solar panels will be installed on the south façade of The Windhond. A special solution for the renovation of the façade, which will also be used to generate energy for as much self-consumption as possible. With this increase in sustainability, tenants' service costs will be reduced!

The 58 apartments in the De Windhond building will be made more sustainable in 2024, each getting its own heat pump and ventilation system. There will also be solar panels on the roof that will be individually connected per apartment.

After the preservation project, De Windhond will be Antares' first existing residential building to be completely gas-free and will immediately meet the government's requirement that all housing for housing corporations must be CO2 neutral by 2050.

Verstegen Spices & Sauces

Verstegen Spices & Sauces Rotterdam

  • Client: Verstegen Spices & Sauces Rotterdam
  • Realization: November 2024
  • Installed Wp: 135.34 KWp
  • Energy yield: 100,000 kWh per year
Verstegen opted for ZigZagSolar façades as a smart alternative to traditional rooftop solar panels for their office building. This decision stemmed from the roof’s unsuitable characteristics for solar installations. ZigZagSolar façades ingeniously utilize the vertical space of the building, offering an optimal solution for effective energy generation. These solar façades excel in performance, especially when the sun is low, and integrate façade insulation and a sleek design to minimize energy loss.

The patented ZigZagSolar system revolutionizes façades by turning them into high-efficiency energy sources while maintaining aesthetic appeal. The ZigZagSolar system features solar panels that face the sun (the ZIG) and composite elements visible from the street (the ZAG). This unique configuration allows for exceptional energy generation, particularly in urban environments.

Thanks to its vertical design, the ZigZagSolar system maximizes energy production during morning, evening, and heating seasons. This means energy is generated precisely when it’s needed most, reducing strain on the power grid and enhancing the value of the produced energy. Beyond functionality, the ZigZagSolar system adds aesthetic value to buildings. The design seamlessly blends into the building’s architecture, making it a visually appealing and a sustainable choice.

Gymzaal Rodaristraat Rotterdam

Gymzaal Rodaristraat Rotterdam

  • Client: Municipality Rotterdam Team Zon and Sportbedrijf Rotterdam
  • Realization: February 2024
  • Installed Capacity: 3600 Wp
  • Energy yield: 3,000 kWh per year
Rotterdam heeft het voornemen koploper te worden Rotterdam aims to lead the way in solar energy adoption, overcoming the challenge of limited space in a densely populated city. The municipality is committed to sustainability and environmental quality, striving for multi-functional use of urban spaces. As the most vertical city in the Netherlands, Rotterdam is leveraging not just rooftops but also façades to generate solar energy, ensuring optimal utilization of its buildings.

The Municipality of Rotterdam launched this innovative project to explore sustainable energy generation. ZigZagSolar was identified as a key contributor to this vision, providing solar panels for building façades. These panels are designed to produce energy when it’s most needed—during mornings, evenings, and the winter season when demand is highest.

Since Sportbedrijf Rotterdam and the Municipality of Rotterdam aimed to create a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing façade for the south side of the School Sports Complex Rodaristraat in Prinsenland, we installed 30 integrated glass/glass ZigZagSolar solar panels featuring an image. The ZigZagSolar system features solar panels that face the sun (the ZIG) and composite elements displaying a map of the gymnasium’s surroundings visible from the street (the ZAG).

This installation results in an energy-producing solar façade that generates more than 3,000 kWh of sustainable electricity annually. The energy saved and generated helps to avoid the emission of approximately 1,100 tons of CO2 each year, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 80 trees per year.

Dempsey Sittard

Dempsey - Sittard

  • Client: Housing corporation Wonen Limburg
  • Realization: December 2021
  • Installed Capacity: 2400 Wp
  • Energy yield: 16,000 kWh per year
In December 2021, housing corporation Wonen Limburg commissioned the installation of ZigZagSolar façades on two sides of the Dempsey flat in Sittard. This special project yielded fantastic results. Residents were given the opportunity to select from various 'street art' designs, which were then enlarged and applied to the façade. Weatherproof prints were used on the decorative reflective panels, while the solar panels themselves were left untouched to ensure maximum performance and easier recycling.

This method allows for the most beautiful colours with precise colour reproducibility. A total of 200 narrow solar panels were installed, generating 16,000 kWh annually. This energy supports the communal energy consumption of the flat, resulting in significant savings on service costs for residents. ZigZagSolar collaborated with creative professionals such as FWP Architecture and GOMAD Urban Art Studio to bring this project to life.
